The most important Vietnamese festival is the Tet which takes place during late January. It is a week-long festival which welcomes the new lunar year. The Thanh Minh or the Holiday of the Dead, is the equivalent of the Catholic's All Souls Day, and is celebrated in April. The Tiet Doan Ngo or the Summer Solstice Day takes place in June. Vietnamese burn effigies during this festival. On August, the Trung Nguyen or the Wandering Souls Day is celebrated, which is the second largest celebration in Vietnam. Vietnamese offer gifts and food to the dead.
