Time: The local time in Thailand is GMT +7.
Language: The official language is Thai but English is also widely understood and spoken especially in tourist areas.
Money: The official unit of currency is the Baht (Bt), divided into 100 satang.
Climate: It is generally humid and hot all year round - with the hottest months being March to May. June to October is the monsoon season. November to February are the coolest months.
Passport/Visa Note: All travelers must have valid passports, with the validity at least six months beyond the duration of the stay. Sufficient funds must also be shown as well as a return/onward ticket. Travelers with a "hippy" look may be reduced entry.
Health: Travelers should take precautions against malaria. Also, immunization against Hepatitis and Typhoid Fever is recommended. Travelers should also know that HIV is a health problem in Thailand.
Safety: Although a big part of Thailand is quite safe, it should be stressed that westerners are exposed to threat of terrorism in Southeast Asia. Travelers should always be vigilant.
Customs: Travelers should refrain from displaying affection in public.
