Tourist Information about Lithuania

Lithuania is a nation that has a lot of stories to tell. It all began when all the Baltic tribes were united under the rule of King Mindaugas the first and only King of Lithuania. From here on, Lithuania has gone through land expansions, acceptance of Christianity, strengthening of ties with Poland which as a result bore the Commonwealth Republic of two nations, wars with neighboring country - Russia which led to Russia occupying Lithuania, going through two World Wars, persecution of its people, trying to win back its long-awaited freedom until its independence was finally recognized by Russia in September 6, 1991.

Even though Lithuania has gone through so many events in the past, it is currently trying its best to do away with the painful remnants of its history with the Soviets. It is trying to move forward by uplifting its country and seeing the brighter side of their sad past. Although much of Lithuania is still laid back and undeveloped it is currently trying to re-build and renovate all its grand buildings that are architecturally appreciated into hotels, cafes and others. It is a start for the Lithuanians to build a new road towards prosperity.

As one of the newer countries in Europe , it is eager to promote its nation as a place to visit. Indeed it is a beautiful place to see, with its colorful history, much of it will be appreciated by travelers worldwide. It has the "old" world ambiance as seen with its capital, Vilnius but at the same time it has several of the attractions of the "new" world that makes Lithuania interesting.
