Tourist Information about Israel

Israel, the world's only Jewish state, is located on the eastern Mediterranean and bordered by Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. A country rich in ancient history, its capital city, Jerusalem, is considered the cradle of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Pilgrims of different faiths from all over the world go here for spiritual quests and journeys, and Jews have considered Israel to be both their Promised Land and Holy Land. Many of its sites are important places in the history of Judaism, including the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock.
Despite opposition from Palestinian Arabs, Israel was declared a state on May 14, 1948, and successfully defended itself from repeated attacks from six Arab nations. Parts of Israel remains fractious today, although there have been recent steps toward accomplishing peace in the Gaza Strip.
Apart from its history and archaeological finds, Israel today offers exciting festivals, sandy beaches, and colourful culture. The Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra is world-renowned and draws audiences from all over; its local cuisine a mishmash of Asian and Mediterranean foods; and events such as the Red Sea Jazz Festival draw attention to an already-thriving Israeli arts scene. Folk dancing is also frequently performed for visitors.
