Indonesia, events

Because of such a diverse cultural background, Indonesia enjoys different sorts of events year-round. February and March mark the Sumba , and mock battles are held. The eve of the Balinese Caka New Year, held in March or April, temple symbols are brought to the sea and bathed, while drummers create noise to drive evil spirits away. Also during March or April, most of Bali shuts down in honor of the Hindu festival of Nyepi. The Balinese believe that if they keep quiet at this certain time, evil spirits will think that no one is on the island, and will leave.

Another Balinese festival is the Galungan, when the gods are said to come down to earth and join on the festivities. Easter is celebrated by a lavish Easter Parade in Larantuka.

Since most Indonesians are Muslims, their festivals are held according to the lunar calendar.
