Republic Day Festival

It is a 10-day Shi'ite festival that celebrates the Prophet Mohammed's grandson. There is a parade of penitents that whips themselves.

This festival commemorates the ancient battle between demons and gods who were fighting for the pitcher of immortality.

Rath Yatra

Also known as the car festival but it is not a rally race but it is a festival that is celebrated in Puri during June/July that features a gigantic temple car of Lord Jagannath. It is pulled by thousands of devotees.

Nehru Cup Snake Boat Race

This event is celebrated on the second Saturday of August in Kerala where the race is held on the backwaters of Alappuzha.
