Ethiopia, getting there and around

By Plane: Ethiopian Airlines is one of Africa's best airlines. They have an extensive network of flights throughout Africa, Djibouti, and Yemen. In Addis Ababa, Bole International Airport serves as Ethiopian Airlines' main hub. Bole is also serviced by Lufthansa, Sudan Airways, British Airways, and KLM.

Getting Around

By Plane: Ethiopian Airlines has a good internal network with reasonable prices. Due to the country's size, flying is the fastest way of getting from destination to destination.

By Bus: Bus services are run by both the government and private companies and operate throughout the country. In the bigger towns and cities you must buy tickets at least the day before you plan to travel or else you'll risk paying double to scalpers. The bus terminus provides schedules as well. Trips are slow because a convoy must be assembled, especially in the more dangerous areas.

By Taxi: Taxis are available in major towns. They are painted blue and white, making them easy to spot. Fares should be agreed upon before traveling. In Addis Ababa, minibus taxis are available for transport as well.

By Car: Traveling by car is considered the best way to tour the beautiful countryside. Car rentals are available from Avis and Hertz in Addis Ababa.
