Timkat
On January 19, Ethiopian Christians celebrate Christ's baptism. Priests remove the symbolic Ark of the Covenant from churches and bring it to a consecrated pool. Masses are held along with late-night picnics. It runs for three days
Enkutatash
The Ethiopian New Year is celebrated on September 11, which is also the feast of John the Baptist. This is a spring festival that has kids dancing on the streets and handing out flowers, complete with singing, dancing, and bonfires.
Maskal
This Christian festival celebrates the finding of the True Cross where Christ was crucified. On September 27, town squares are filled with piles of maskal , or 'cross' daisies, which are later used to make bonfires.
