Weather
Summer is from June to August and winter is from December to March. Winters are warm although the islands are windy and wet throughout the year. Summers are cool with little sunshine.

Dress Code
Casual dress is suitable although more formal wear is requisite at the more exclusive social functions and restaurants.

Business Hours
Most banks are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 4 pm (on Thursday they are open to 6pm), but their hours vary outside Copenhagen. Store hours are from 9 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Thursday and 9 am to 7 pm on Friday. On Saturdays, shops are open from noon to 2 pm and many shops are closed on Sunday.

Dining
Danish cuisine focuses on fish and meat, usually served with potatoes and vegetables. In hotels, breakfast ( morgenmad ) is considered a tasty meal, with a table filled with bread, cheese, cereal, eggs, fresh juice, coffee, tea, and milk. Brunch is served a little later in the morning, with choices from American, Australian, English, and French breakfasts. A popular snack with the Danish is smørrebrød , which are open sandwiches filled with fish, meat, cheese, and trimmings. Fast-food stands ( pølsevogn ) offer hot sausages, toasted sandwiches, and chips. Try eating a Danish pastry in the local cafes.

Beer in Denmark is highly regarded. Carlsburg, one of the largest breweries in the country, even offer special "Christmas beer" in the weeks leading to the holiday season.

Smoking
Smoking is restricted on public transport and in buildings that have regular public access (i.e. universities, hospitals). It is allowed in restaurants and bars although the establishment must put up a sign.

Tipping
Tips are seldom expected, as service charges are included with every bill. When you think you need to tip, give one or two DKK; tip for special services only.

Time Zone
Central European Time - one hour ahead of GMT and six hours ahead of EST. DST is from the end of March to the end of September.
