Climate - Chile has three broad climatic zones roughly corresponding to their three major natural regions. Northern Chile has an arid low latitude type of climate, middle Chile as far south as Concepcion has the dry summer subtropical or Mediterranean type of climate while southern Chile south of Concepcion has a climate similar to that of the northwestern coast of North America . Summers are cool, winter is relatively mild and rain falls abundantly throughout the year.

Regions - Chile is divided into 13 regions which is designated by a name and a Roman numeral. Assigning of numbers is from north to south. The Roman numeral is usually used instead of the name with the exception of RM (Region Metropoletana) wherein its capital, Santiago is located.
