Chile, getting there and around

Getting There
Travelers can fly into Chile thru the Santiago International Airport where transportation in going to one's particular destination is not difficult to find. Land transportation from Argentina to Chile is available thru a high pass in the Andes Mountains. This trip could be quite tiring though, as it is long. Ferries to Chile are also available along the southern coast. Traveling by land or ferry will reward a traveler with beautiful, unspoiled sceneries.
Getting Around
Public transportation in its capital, Santiago is quite efficient.
By Metro
The Metro lines go both from north to south and east to west. The underground Metro is the most commonly used transportation by business people and residents.
By Taxi
Taxis can be found anywhere but choose one which has a meter to avoid problems. For city to city travel, a negotiated price with the taxi driver will be more appropriate.
By Bus
Buses are best for short commute only as they are mostly crowded and thus uncomfortable. Intercity travel thru bus varies according to the service class chosen. The luxury service is recommended for long distance trips.
By Train
Train service is more expensive than bus service although it is a more comfortable option to travel by road especially for long journeys.
Car Rental
Most major car rental companies are represented at the airport.
