Tourist Information about Brazil

Brazil is a country with beautiful landscapes, friendly people, and a culture that knows how to enjoy life to its fullest, despite the reality of living.

The largest city in South America and the fifth largest country in the world, Brazil is often known for its most famous festival, the Carnaval, and its obsession with football (they produced Pele, after all). Brazil is a country that embraces its culture with fierce enthusiasm and joy; its people are primarily known for their general amiability and their humor. It is a land of confusing contradictions as well. Although it is one of the top ten economies in the world, much of its people still remain poor and uneducated.

Even before the first Portuguese explorers landed in 1500, nomadic tribes had been living in the country for around 6,000 years. Brazil was named after brazilwood, a tree that was valued by the early Portuguese colonists. With its wide, sweeping agricultural landscape and its many rainforests, Brazil is considered a great place for eco-tourism.

Its vast size makes it bigger than the US (excluding Alaska), and it borders every South American country except for Chile and Ecuador. Brazil is one of the few countries that do not have mountains to compare with its neighbors in the Andes.

Brazil has also one of the most ethnically diverse people in the world. People of all nationalities settle in this country, including Germans, Italians, and Japanese, the latter of which holds a big community in Sao Paulo.

This wide range of diversity, which runs everywhere, can be put down to its past history and its present popular culture. In all the world, it can truthfully be said that there's no place quite like it.
